One year later....

Ruby & Sapphire
It was one year ago yesterday since I last could see my mom or anyone. I was pretty bummed out for awhile there, but who wouldn't be? I had staples holding my eyelids shut and big collar thing on my neck and I was scared and it was just an all around bad time, especially since I just love summer and going out to play. Last summer was pretty quiet cause I didn't feel much like playing and mom was here busy taking care of me and making sure I was comfortable and not afraid and alone so she didn't get out much either. This summer we're cruising! I can get around now just as good as anyone else, better than some of those older dogs and Sapphire is such a good little seeing eye doggie daughter! That's her in the picture, we're taking our afternoon nap! We have a smaller bed under moms desk but sometimes we take over this bigger one..
I'm not as scared of storms this year either. A little but I don't go nuts anymore and if mom holds me I calm down right away. It's just a little thunder and I know mom will protect me so I'm not scared anymore.
I still have Crinkle! Mom protects Crinkle from the others and I think they all know better than to hurt my Crinkle Cow, everyone knows he is MINE! Mom bought the others a blue cow and they play with that one. Plus, I heard mom tell auntie Val that she has a spare Crinkle Cow stashed away in a drawer just in case...
We play tug of war with Crinkle and my favorite fun is when I get the squeaker in my teeth and make him squeal!
When mom lets me wander around in the yard I know right where I'm going, but mom worries I'll get lost so she put up a fence around the big Maple right out the front window in a spot in the yard that stays cool, since none of us can get into the swimming pools anymore she calls it retirement yard. It's a nice big round pen and mom hung water pails in a few different spots, so I can't trip into the water & spill it. Sapphire hangs out in the new pen with me and Peanut and REO. It's fun getting to be outside again, I love the fresh air and when I come in mom says I smell so nice and fresh from laying in the mossy yard!
So things are good in my life, in spite of the fact I went blind. It turned out not to be the end of the world after all, I'm a happy girl, I love to play tug of war and I know when feeding time is close so I make sure to let mom know so she dosen't forget, she calls me her little arf arf and laughs; but breakfast will follow soon, and she sings to me too!
"You are my sunshine my only sunshine...."
Mom said to tell you if you're here reading this cause your dog went blind or is going blind, not to worry, it will be OK! There's a little adjustment period where re-learning takes place, but heck, we learn fast, mom can even change the furniture around again, and I'm finding my way around just fine! Ya'll have a wonderful summer now ya hear!
Love, Ruby & Sapphire & Mom! XOXOXOXOXOXOX
